About

Text-to-speech (TTS) software converts written text into spoken words, helping individuals who experience difficulty with reading, processing information visually, or staying focused. These programs are especially valuable in roles requiring extensive reading, enabling users to listen to documents, emails, or online content.

This accommodation improves access to written communication for individuals with print-related disabilities or cognitive and neurological conditions. It allows users to work with greater independence and reduces cognitive strain, enabling them to process information in a format that suits their learning or working style.

Costs and Funding

Text-to-speech software ranges from free built-in tools (e.g., Windows Narrator or Apple’s VoiceOver) to advanced systems costing $200–$1,000.

JobAccess, the NDIS, or workplace funding under disability inclusion programs may cover these costs.
