About

Standing desks, also known as sit-stand workstations, allow users to alternate between sitting and standing throughout the day. This helps to reduce muscle fatigue and improve circulation.

These workstations are particularly beneficial for individuals with conditions that are worsened by prolonged sitting or who require flexibility in posture to manage pain and fatigue. This accommodation promotes movement, improves focus, and supports better ergonomic health.

The ability to change positions throughout the day reduces pressure on specific muscle groups and joints. This can help prevent pain flare-ups and increase comfort for those with musculoskeletal or chronic pain conditions.

Sit-stand workstations also support energy levels and alertness, contributing to improved concentration and productivity over extended work periods.

Costs and Funding

Basic models of sit-stand desk converters start around $150, while fully adjustable electric standing desks can cost upwards of $500 to $1,500.

These may be funded through the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) for employees with disability-related needs or covered under NDIS plans under Assistive Technology. Employers may also cover these costs as part of a reasonable workplace adjustment.
