About

Cushioned mats, also known as anti-fatigue mats, are designed to reduce the discomfort and strain associated with standing for extended periods. These mats provide support to the feet, knees, and lower back by encouraging subtle movements in the leg muscles, which improve circulation and reduce pressure. In work environments where standing is necessary, they help minimise pain and fatigue, enhancing comfort and productivity.

This accommodation is especially useful in roles that involve prolonged standing, such as customer service, laboratory work, or manufacturing. For individuals with chronic pain, arthritis, joint instability, or musculoskeletal disorders, cushioned mats can significantly reduce strain and the risk of injury. By decreasing physical stress, they support greater stamina and help employees maintain their work performance throughout the day.

Costs and Funding

Anti-fatigue mats generally range from $40 to $200, depending on size, thickness, and material.

They may be funded through the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF) or under NDIS for participants with chronic pain or fatigue-related disabilities. Employers may also cover the cost as part of reasonable workplace adjustments.
